CIVIC SQUARE

working with local community stakeholders and civic partners to design and deliver 10,000m2 of affordable co-working space, studios, flexible maker space, nursery, cafe for community and social enterprises

00 are currently working with the Founders of Impact Hub Birmingham on the transformation of circa 100,000sqft of canal-side, former industrial buildings in Birmingham, to create CIVIC SQUARE at the heart of the Port Loop area regeneration led by Urban Splash and Places for People in partnership with Birmingham City Council and Canal & River Trust. The £20M retrofit and new-build will create new workspaces, meeting spaces, and community facilities.

00 have been developing this new proposition with the Impact Hub team, building on all the learning, experimentation, and movement building which the Impact Hubs have enabled.

Together we have been developing the key elements of the future proposal over the last two years with many partners – local and global – and this collaborative process has been an iterative journey of growing a brief with community and economic resilience at its core, questioning what a Town Hall for the 21st Century means, the CIVIC SQUARE is an upgrade, iteration, and an evolution of Impact Hub Birmingham’s mission.

The operating principles, values, and future reality of CIVIC SQUARE is something we are currently developing in a range of different ways, taking a bold approach to visioning, building and investing in civic infrastructure for neighbourhoods of the future. Our sister studio Dark Matter Labs are strategic consultants, creating a viable vision for the potential of CIVIC SQUARE and developing strategies for operational and economical resilience.
